10 Helpful Tips for an Inshore or Offshore Adventure

If you are new to Inshore and Offshore Fishing, we put together some tips to help you get started right. Young Boats is known for their custom center-console fishing boats and are focused on making your angling adventures effortless. We know that when you pack up your fishing gear and set sail you just want to enjoy the ride and catch your dream fish.  Here is a list of tips to make that happen!

Offshore Fishing Tips:

  1. Get a Fishing License.

  2. Learn the Basics.

    • The most important item for offshore fishing is to learn how to tie a proper knot. Many beginners have learned the hard way that a bad knot can cost them their dream fish.
  3. Knowing the Fish Types.

    • Study the type of fish that are in your area. Learn what types of bait, reel, rod, and line you need to catch them. This will ensure you do not waste money on equipment you do not need.
  4. Weather and Tides.

    • It is important to plan ahead and not only know the forecast but what the tides are doing. This will help you have a safe and successful offshore fishing adventure.
  5. Fish with a Master.

    • If you do not want to wait and learn by trial and error. You can learn from the experts. Go on a few offshore fishing trips with experienced locals and absorb their years of wisdom.

Inshore Fishing Tips:

  1. Get a Fishing License.

  2. Where to Find Fish.

    • If there is an incoming tide, go towards the mangroves and oyster bars. If it is outgoing, head towards the channels and passes. If you forget this rule while on the water, remember to simply follow the baitfish, they follow this flow. If you live in a warm climate, you will be more successful either early or late in the day. Similarly with offshore fishing, always check the weather before starting your fishing adventure.
  3. Useful Apparel.

    • You will not want to fish without your favorite pair of Polarized sunglasses. These will not only protect your eyes but allow you to cut through the glare and see fish below the water’s surface.
  4. Keep the Bait Happy.

    • When fishing on a Young Boat, you will most likely have a baitwell to keep your bait out of direct sunlight and with sufficient oxygen levels so that they stay alive and useful for your inshore fishing adventure. Also, remember to use the proper size hook based on the bait you selected.
  5. The Beginners Rod and Reel.

    • If you are looking to have a simple setup to start with that will cover a variety of inshore angling needs, then you will want to purchase a 7 ft medium-weight spinning rod and reel combination with a line that can handle 10-20 pounds.
